Main entrance and emergency egress shaft now sealed by landowner.
Originally worked for lead, closed in 1885. Reopened by Laporte in 1985 for barytes and fluorite. A new entrance was opened in 1991 with material processed at Cavendish Mill. Laporte closed the mine in 1999 and it remained on care and maintenance until 2012 when British Fluorspar restarted production. British Fluorspar were taken over by Fluorsid SpA in 2018.
Fluorsid British Fluorspar (FBFL) shut their operation in 2023 after a number of significant collapses seriously affected their profits. Their official line was that a plan to apply for changed extraction permissions would be submitted and work re-start. As at 2025 there is no sign of a revised application having been put forward to the local council or PDNPA.
None. Currently sealed by the landowner as a reult of damage done to his property by ‘explorers’.
