The mine was accessed via two shafts: Engine Shaft, located 30 yards south of the road bridge, and Flat Rod Shaft, situated 75 yards north of the bridge. Adits from each side of the river connect to them at depths of 3 fathoms (5.4 meters) and 5 fathoms (9 meters) below the surface, respectively. These shafts are linked at 20 fathoms (36 meters) below the adit level. Although the mine is reported to be 45 fathoms (81 meters) deep, the mine plan only shows short drives below the 20 fathom level. Stoping is depicted solely on the 10 fathom level, where the lode was developed from drives originating from both shafts along a length of 95 fathoms (171 meters) along its strike. Just north of Flat Rod Shaft, the NS (north-south) lode intersects with an ENE (east-northeast)-trending lode, which was worked for 35 fathoms (63 meters) at adit level and for 10 fathoms (18 meters) at the 10 fathom level.
