An unusually late and reasonably succesfull mine.

The mine exploits the Hafan Lode and was worked from the early 1870s up until 1914 by Edward Evans who also ran the Leri Store at Talybont, and the Altycrib mine.

There is a complete history of the mine written by the late Simon Hughes - see publications below…

Current ownership of the mine is in the mineral rights which include “all mines” which is separate from the land ownership. This is split between Bernard Moore and a party resident in Zimbabwe, the mine is generally considered free access.

Lower adit has underground headrame used for accessing lower level. Upper adit is open, and can be used to access lower level using rope techniques.

Year Activity
1880s? Trials by Edward Edwards of Talybont.
1889 Mine report published by Edmund Spargo. A cross cut (No 1 adit) had been started to intercept two parallel lodes exposed on the hillside.
1909 Production takes off under the Scottish Cardigan Company, proving very rich for a number of years.
1916 Total of 1240 tons ore returned by 1916.

Situated near where the road up the Cyneinog valley terminates. No known access restrictions, see description.
