Significant hush located at the head of Hudeshope Beck. Mineralization in this area, which includes fluorite, quartz, galena, and sphalerite, resembles that found at the nearby Coldberry Mines complex. Additionally, a variety of minerals, such as millerite, quartz, siderite, galena, sphalerite, and calcite, are present within a bed of clay ironstone nodules exposed at the top of the hush.
In recent years there has been some debate over the origins of the ‘Hush’, with some Geologists thinking that the Hush is more likely to be a natural feature, possibly a result of glacial action, with manmade elements lying within the gutter.
Either way, natural or manmade, the Coldberry Gutter forms a spectacular part of the Teesdale Landscape.
