The largest mine in terms of iron ore output in Cumbria boasts a fascinating history, extensively documented in ‘Cumberland Iron’ by A. Harris, published by D. Bradford Barton Ltd. in 1970. Kidney ore was not uncommon at this site, and there are known specimens of hematite pseudomorphing fluorite originating from here.
